How to size a pump station
To correctly size a pump station for your site, you need to confirm:
- What is the application?
Is the pump station to serve a single dwelling or a number of properties? How many showers/toilets/bedrooms does the property/properties have?
- What is entering the pumping station?
Is raw sewage entering the system, or will the vessel be situated after a sewage treatment process, where only treated effluent will enter the station? If the vessel will be accommodating raw sewage, the pumps will need to be heavy-duty enough to handle solids, and therefore the overall price will be higher
- How far does the station need to pump?
You will need to know the approximate length (run) of drainage required from where the vessel will be located to its discharge point
- How high does the station need to pump?
You will also need to know the approximate height (lift) of the drainage from where the vessel will be located to its discharge point
This information will help build a clear picture of the size of pump station required, what type of pumps need to be supplied and the duty of the station.
