What type of tank/system do i have at my property?

You may have recently moved into a property with a septic tank/sewage treatment system installed, and suddenly you are responsible for its ongoing maintenance and longevity!

One of the easiest ways to find out what type of system you have is by inspecting the access cover and taking a look at the internals of the unit.

Septic Tank – a septic tank has a square galvanised manhole cover with internal baffle suspended by four support hooks

Klargester BioDisc Sewage Treatment System – the BioDisc range has a green circular plastic cover with internal rotating disc pack

Klargester BioTec Sewage Treatment System – the BioTec range has a green surfboard-shaped plastic cover with internal honeycomb structured media bales

Other Sewage Treatment Systems – other sewage treatment systems will generally have a different-coloured GRP or plastic cover, which may be flat with the ground or slightly curved.

Pump Station – a pump station has a square galvanised manhole cover with a minimum of three, and maximum of four weighted floats inside

Rainwater Harvesting System – a rainwater harvesting system has a square galvanised manhole cover with internal leaf filter, depth probe, and pump

Oil Separator – an oil separator has a standard heavy-duty manhole cover (normally in areas of heavy traffic), an internal oil alarm (if fitted) and a coalescer filter assembly
